Fröccs at Ravenstone Abbey
Hungarian Wine Spritzer —
At Ravenstone Abbey we like things that bring people together—good food, good coffee, good laughter, and sometimes even an axe sunk square into the bullseye. Now we’re adding something new to the mix: Fröccs, Hungary’s beloved wine spritzer.
What is it?
Fröccs (say it like “frurtch”) is simply wine and sparkling soda water, poured together in just the right balance. It’s crisp, light, and refreshing—the kind of drink made for conversation, camaraderie, and long afternoons. Hungarians have been raising glasses of fröccs since the 1800s, when soda siphons first appeared and poets gave names to the different ratios.
Why we serve it here
-
It’s easygoing: lower in alcohol, but full of flavor.
-
It’s versatile: different blends for different moods.
-
It’s social: a drink meant to be shared, not fussed over.
Our Menu of Classics
How it’s made
We start with chilled wine and fresh, high-pressure soda water—never tonic, never sweet. Wine goes in first, soda second, poured with a steady hand so the bubbles stay lively. It’s simple, it’s honest, and it’s served the way József remembers from home.
So whether you’ve come to Ravenstone Abbey for an axe-throwing session, a good meal, or just to linger over coffee with friends, you can now raise a glass of fröccs. Light, sparkling, and unmistakably Hungarian.
This is refreshment—Abbey style.
