From Sacred Stone to a Thriving Castle

Welcome to Ravenstone Abbey, where history, hospitality, and adventure come together under one roof. Our journey began with a love story that transcended borders, uniting a Hungarian dreamer, Jozsef, with an American renovator at heart, Sue. Their shared passion for both ministry and historical architecture led them on an unexpected path—one that would transform an abandoned 1908 stone church in Coleraine, Minnesota, into a vibrant destination like no other.

A Dream Takes Root

During a visit to Hungary, Sue was captivated by the centuries-old castles that stood as testaments to time and tradition. It was in this moment that the seed of a dream was planted—a dream to restore and breathe new life into a stone structure, a place that would welcome both locals and travelers from afar.

Back in Minnesota

Back in Minnesota, fate led Sue and Jozsef to a forgotten gem: the Coleraine Methodist Episcopal Church. This historic building, with its towering stone walls and captivating stained-glass windows, had served as a place of worship for first-generation miners and their families. Though time had taken its toll, leaving the church in disrepair, the couple saw its potential to become something extraordinary.

From Vision to Reality

Embracing both the church’s spiritual heritage and its architectural grandeur, Jozsef and Sue embarked on an ambitious restoration project, naming it Ravenstone Abbey in homage to the Holloko Castle of Hungary. Their vision was clear: to create a place where history meets modernity, where the old-world charm of a medieval castle blends seamlessly with the excitement of a contemporary event venue.

Help Along the Way

They couldn’t have done it without the helping hands of family, friends, and the Coleraine community, whose support made the journey not only possible but deeply meaningful. Alongside them, a dedicated team of skilled employees worked tirelessly to bring the vision to life, uncovering the building’s hidden beauty and laying the foundation for its new life as Ravenstone Abbey.
